SPA Hotel 5-star sup. Lifestyle Suite InterContinental Düsseldorf/ D

A first draft not being realized has complete round walls. In order to ensure a smooth transition between the rooms alongside the facade, all functional areas are integrated in one large scale shape standing between the two glass facades like a piece of baroque furniture. The first idea was to set two circles face to face which both have something to do with Africa in the broadest sense. At the same time, the circular shape should create a feeling of security and give a better perspective of the skyline since the semi-circled shape increases that perspective. As a third result of this artful circle idea, superfluous corridors could be avoided. The round walls are encased with wood in order to emphasize the idea of the baroque furniture as well as emanating warmth. These special functions, such as sleeping or the spa bath, are situated in special alcoves or “grottos” being cut out from the large scale shape of the semi-circle. The special functions have a distinct coloring: red and white stand for the bed, vivid green in Bisazza for spa bath and wellness, and earth tones for living and food.
This idea is visualized via “mood boards” and sketches.
